The dose of thyroxine has to be adjusted during the period of pregnancy. Many patients may need an increasing dose. However the dosage adjustment should only be done by your doctor. As soon as you miss a menstrual cycle get the pregnancy confirmed and contact your doctor as early as possible.

In hyperthyroidism, the patient’s thyroid gland produces way too much of the thyroid hormones triiodothyronine and thyroxine while in hypothyroidism the patient’s thyroid gland does not make enough of the thyroid hormones which leads to fatigue, thinning hair, cold intolerance and a puffy face.

Whether you have hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid) or the much less common hyperthyroidism (an overactive thyroid), you'll probably need to take medication and but make sure you are closely monitored. Always take prescribed dosage.

View All Answers (2)A. Hi Shashank, Hair fall is frequently associated with thyroid and is a common symptom of it. Hyperthyroidism (an overactive thyroid) releases many hormones into the body. The body burns too much energy because of this and often results into thinning of hair. Your hair becomes brittle which leads to constant breakage and damage.

View All Answers (2)A. Dear Sahil, The unexpected gain in weight and difficulty in shedding it is one of the first noticeable signals of hypothyroidism. If the thyroid is not able to produce hormones, or the body has difficulty using the thyroid hormones, either way, the body’s metabolic rate slows down. Whatever has not been metabolized, gets stored as fat in the body hence, resulting into weight gain.
