Why knee joints make sound?

Hello, I am 25 years old. My joints at knee produce crackling sound when I sit. And the sound is very prominent. My parents-in-law are worried about the sounds very much and they suggest me to drink more milk, consume ghee (they use Dalda ghee in some veggies, but I can hardly digest dalda) and they also tell me to avoid lemon. Can you please tell me whether these sounds are dangerous for my health or are they normal. And also provide some guidance about home remedies for the same problem.
Thank ypu
