I am RH negative, will i have to take some drugs after child birth

My blood group is RH negative and my doctor says that i will have to take some drugs after childbirth. Is it safe?

    If your blood group is Rh negative and your husband's blood group is RH positive, there are chances that your baby may also be RH positive. When your baby is born, or in late pregnancy, the baby's blood may leak into your blood circulation. Your body will respond to the baby's blood as an enemy and will produce antibodies against it. If these antibodies leak back into baby's circulation, they can destroy a large number of the baby's blood cells and cause severe anemia and jaundice in the new born. In order to avoid this from happening, an injection of anti D immunoglobulin can be given to a rhesus negative mother immediately after the birth of a rehesus baby. Given forty-eight hours after the birth, it stops the mother's biological defence mechanism from acting against the baby's blood. A fresh injection is given after every delivery, miscarrage or absortion. It is possible for blood from an aborted foetus to enter the mother's bloodstream.
